21-year-old dies after ‘nearly head-on’ crash in Dade City: FHP

The Florida Highway Patrol said 21-year-old Brandon man was killed after being involved in a “nearly head-on” collision in Dade City Saturday night.

The crash happened at around 6:45 p.m. on Blanton Road between a Hyundai Elantra and a Chevy Equinox traveling opposite directions.

The 21-year-old was driving the Hyundai, heading east. The Chevy was driven by a 28-year-old Zephyrhills man, FHP said.

East of Country Squire Lane, the speed limit on Blanton Road drops from 55 mph to 45 mph due to a large curve. The Hyundai driver failed to negotiate the curve and entered the westbound lane, striking the Chevy “nearly head-on,” FHP said.

Both drivers were seriously injured in the crash, and the 21-year-old Hyundai driver later died from his injuries.

A third vehicle, a Kia Sportage driven by a 26-year-old Brooksville woman, was behind the Chevy at the time of the collision. Debris struck the car, but the driver was not injured.
