A 22-year-old man was arrested over the weekend following a road rage shooting in Cutler Bay, authorities confirmed.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at about 11:40 p.m. along U.S. 1 near Caribbean Boulevard.
Deputies said four victims were initially heading north on Southwest 112th Avenue, approaching U.S. 1, when a black, four-door sedan pulled up in front of their vehicle and stopped.
According to the report, the sedan didn’t move for several minutes, but then the suspect, JLW, of Miami, got out of the car and began punching the victims’ car and striking the passenger-side window.
Deputies said the driver of that vehicle tried to flee from W, but W followed him north on U.S. 1.
While stopped at a red light at the intersection with Caribbean Boulevard, the driver noticed a red dot on his neck and a few moments later, heard the sound of two gunshots, authorities said.
According to the report, the victim then fled north again on U.S. 1 and called 911.
The driver provided a vehicle description of the suspect’s vehicle to a 911 dispatcher and deputies pulled over the vehicle on 183rd Street and U.S. 1.
Deputies said W was asked to exit the vehicle and was taken into custody. He refused to cooperate with the investigation at the Cutler Bay police station and was then transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, authorities said.
No injuries were reported.
According to the report, deputies recovered a silver and black firearm with a laser attachment on the passenger-side floorboard of W’s car, along with one spent casing near the gun.
Deputies said that on Sunday, the victim identified W as the gunman in a photo lineup.
W faces charges of aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
As of Monday afternoon, W remained at TGK on a $30,000 bond.
