Man arrested after crashing through divider on U.S. 19

A 26-year-old Clearwater man was arrested early morning on Nov. 25, after crashing his car through a concrete divider on U.S. 19 and fleeing the scene, authorities said.

The driver failed to slow or stop for a stop sign at U.S. 19 and Nursery Road, police said.

The eastbound car crossed the southbound frontage road, slammed through a concrete wall and came to rest in the southbound lanes of U.S. 19.

Concrete debris was scattered across the roadway, forcing officers to close the southbound lanes for several hours.

The man ran from the crash but was taken into custody shortly after, police said. He was treated at Mease Countryside Hospital, then put in the Pinellas County Jail on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.
