An elderly man died Wednesday morning after his SUV rear-ended a dump truck in the Spring Park area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO said the crash happened around 6:54 a.m. on Spring Park Road, near Emerson Street.
According to JSO, the man driving the SUV, who was in his 80s, rear-ended a dump truck that was stopped on the road.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, JSO said.
JSO Lieutenant Jesse Eanes said the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
“We’re arriving to the holidays. I just want to remind everybody that there is going to be a lot more cars on the road and traffic on the road, so please wear your seatbelt, put your phone down, be aware of your surroundings and don’t speed,” Eanes said.
Traffic homicide detectives were still on scene conducting their investigation.
This crash marks the 154th traffic fatality so far this year, according to JSO.
