Broward deputy protected by vest after he and suspect shot in Margate: BSO

A Broward deputy was protected by his bulletproof vest when a suspect shot at him amid a burglary investigation Thursday in Margate, officials said.

The shooting happened in the 6100 block of Northwest 2nd Street, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began early Thursday morning when the suspect grabbed cash from a patron’s hand at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood, without injury, Seminole Police confirmed.

The BSO’s Burglary Apprehension Team was investigating in Margate when the deputy-involved shooting occurred, officials said.

Officials said the suspect struck the deputy, who was wearing a bulletproof vest. He was not seriously injured.

The suspect was also struck and was transported by paramedics to the hospital along with the deputy. The suspect’s condition was unknown.

Footage from Chopper6 shows an armored vehicle and a black sedan with what appears to be gunshots in the back windows in the driveway of a home.
