A family of four is facing hardship after a fire destroyed their home and killed their four pets just days before Christmas, the Haines City Fire Department said.
Crews were called to the residence on Lake Brown Drive on the evening of Friday, Nov. 19 after an apparent electrical issue caused a fire.
Photos showed smoke billowing from the one-story home. Christmas lights were strung along the fence and other decorations had been placed outside.
The residents, two adults and two children, were not home at the time. Firefighters said the family’s four pets did not survive the fire.
While crews were able to extinguish the blaze, the damage left the family displaced.
“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time,” the fire department said.
