Freight train hits, kills pedestrian near downtown Delray Beach, causing road closures

Detectives are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train near SE 4th Street in Delray Beach, prompting road closures.

Delray Beach police say a southbound freight train on the FEC tracks struck and killed the unidentified pedestrian around 9 a.m.

As a result, police say all roadways are closed between SE 4th Street and NE 10th Street, including Atlantic Avenue, while the scene is investigated.

Closures are expected to remain in place until at least 12:30 p.m., per police. Motorists should avoid the area, use alternate routes, and allow extra travel time.
