A 59-year-old Tallahassee man was hospitalized with serious injuries after his bicycle was struck by a sedan Monday evening on Capital Circle SW, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Capital Circle SW and Southern Street. Troopers say a 60-year-old man, also from Tallahassee, was driving a sedan westbound on Capital Circle SW and slowed in traffic before entering the painted median to turn left onto Southern Street.
As the sedan began its turn, the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on Capital Circle SW and entered the intersection. The sedan collided with the bicyclist, causing the bicyclist to be thrown onto the hood of the car, then into the windshield, before landing in the roadway.
The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, came to rest in the eastbound travel lane along with the bicycle. The driver of the sedan was not injured.
Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the Florida Department of Highway Motor Vehicles and Safety Administration’s crash database, this is the first recorded bicycle accident of 2026. In 2025, there were 90 crashes involving bicycles in the capital city and county, with one of them fatal and 84 injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Leon County EMS. The crash remains under investigation.
