One dog is dead following a Hillsborough County house fire.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a single-story home just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 4th Avenue Northwest in Ruskin, where crews found heavy smoke coming from the garage.

Firefighters used hose lines to take out the fire in the garage and prevented it from reaching the rest of the home.

After searching through the house, crews found no person inside, but did find a dog who died from the fire.

HCFR is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, but said the incident is not considered suspicious.
