Two men injured in College Street shooting after verbal dispute, JSO says

Two men are recovering from injuries after an argument led to a shootout early Saturday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said officers responded shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday to the 2600 block of College Street following reports of two adult males being shot.

JSO said the initial investigation revealed a verbal altercation between the victim and suspect prior to the shooting. After the argument, the victim was sitting inside his car when the suspect approached and fired multiple shots in his direction.

The victim and his girlfriend returned fire, striking the suspect multiple times.

The victim sustained a shoulder wound, while the suspect was shot in the abdomen and foot.

JSO confirmed that both men were taken to a local hospital and are listed as stable as of Saturday morning. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

Detectives canvassed the area for video surveillance and interviewed witnesses as part of the investigation. JSO described the incident as isolated and related to the prior verbal dispute between the two men.

JSO is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500, email jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org, or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
