Sarasota road closures in place following deadly crash where car hit tree, caught fire

An investigation is underway following a deadly Sarasota County crash where a car hit a tree and caught fire.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol said this happened after 4 a.m. Wednesday, when the car hit a tree in the center median and caught fire near the intersection of Crockers Lake and Sarasota Square boulevards.

When authorities arrived on scene, they said the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

The man driving the vehicle, who was the only one involved in this crash, died at the scene.

Sarasota Square Boulevard is currently shut down in both east and westbound directions between the intersections of Potter Park Drive and McIntosh Road.

Drivers should seek alternate routes.

FHP is investigating this crash.
