2 workers hospitalized after carbon monoxide exposure at Boca Raton worksite

BOCA RATON, Fla. (CBS12) — A crew’s use of power equipment allegedly led to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide at a Boca Raton worksite, leaving one worker unconscious and prompting an emergency airlift to the hospital, while another worker was transported via ambulance.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue told CBS12 News that on Tuesday morning at 10:11 a.m., firefighters responded to a call from a home located in the 1100 block of 20th Avenue.

The caller allegedly reported that a worker at the site was feeling unwell and had passed out.

Upon their arrival, firefighters reported that a carbon monoxide monitor had detected high levels of the gas in the area. It was determined that a work crew had been using power equipment inside the building, which likely caused the elevated carbon monoxide levels.

Officials told CBS12 News that due to the readings inside the home, firefighters made the decision to airlift one man to St. Mary’s Hospital for further evaluation. Additionally, a second worker was transported by ambulance to the same hospital.
