A 20-year-old Pensacola woman is charged with DUI manslaughter after hitting and killing a 51-year-old Pensacola woman walking along Lillian Highway early Sunday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Summer Leigh Townsend was booked into Escambia County Jail just before noon Sunday on charges of:
- DUI manslaughter
- leaving the scene of a crash with death
- driving with a suspended license
- failing to maintain a lane
Family identifies the victim as Sharon Woolfolk.
The crash happened around 2:45 a.m. on Lillian Highway near 50th Avenue.
According to FHP, Woolfolk was walking east in the paved apron of Lillian Hwy, pushing an e-bike on her right side. Townsend, meanwhile, was traveling east in the eastbound lane of Lillian Highway in a sedan.
FHP says Townsend’s vehicle drifted into the paved apron and struck Woolfolk, who was thrown onto the hood and windshield before rolling off and striking the pavement.
Townsend kept driving east before turning around and traveling west on Lillian Highway, according to FHP. Troopers located Townsend and her vehicle later that morning. FHP says she suffered minor injuries.
Townsend was released from jail Tuesday night on $85,000 bond.
