A man was arrested after a road rage incident escalated in a business parking lot in Fort Myers.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, officers responded to a report of an assault in the 2300 block of Cleveland Avenue (US-41) at approximately 11:10 p.m. Monday.
The victim reportedly told officers that he was struck in the face after a traffic-related dispute. FMPD said the victim displayed visible injuries that were consistent with being hit.
Officers gathered witness statements and video surveillance and determined the suspect, identified as Douglas Keating Jr., 45, struck the victim through the open driver’s window and tried to re-engage a second time.
“You’re taking a situation that was potentially dangerous, that you made it out of, and just creating another dangerous situation where you could get yourself killed, you could kill somebody else or you could hurt somebody else,” Aiden Lasch of Fort Myers said.
Keating was arrested and is facing charges of burglary of an occupied conveyance (unarmed) and battery causing bodily harm. He was taken to the Lee County Jail.
