A driver is recovering after a crash involving a tractor-trailer early Sunday morning in Hillsborough County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an 18-year-old driving a Kia Optima was traveling southbound on I-75 at 4:39 a.m.
The teenager attempted to pass a tractor-trailer in the outside lane near milepost 241 when he lost control of the car, which then spun and hit the tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer stopped along the emergency shoulder of the interstate, and the Kia stopped in the center lane.
Troopers said the driver of the Kia then exited the vehicle and was standing in the roadway when a Ford Explorer traveling southbound collided with his car.
Both vehicles were then propelled forward and hit the 18-year-old, troopers said.
The teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The other two drivers were not injured.
