18-year-old minibike driver killed in crash with SUV on Lake Trafford Rd in Collier County

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal crash involving a minibike that happened on Lake Trafford Road in Collier County Sunday evening.

According to FHP, an 18-year-old man was driving north on Palm Drive on a gas-powered minibike, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of Lake Trafford Road.

A 65-year-old woman in an SUV was going east on Lake Trafford Road when the minibike entered her direct path, FHP says. The front of her vehicle collided with the bike.

Post-collision, troopers say, the 18-year-old became separated from his bike. He was critically injured and pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.

The woman was not seriously injured.

FHP says the crash remains under investigation.
