A 49-year-old Middleburg man was killed Wednesday when his van left the road and struck a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The report said the man was driving a van on Lakewood Lane when, for unknown reasons, he suddenly accelerated, crossed over the sidewalk, and continued onto the shoulder of Oakwood Lane.
The driver, then, ran into a tree, FHP said.
He died on the scene.
