Two people hospitalized after shooting in Springfield

Two people hospitalized after shooting in Springfield

Just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Springfield police responded to several calls that shots had been fired at a residence on East 11th Street.

News13 was first on the scene and spoke with a witness who said they heard five shots fired.

Officials confirmed two victims suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital, but did not release their condition they were in or identities.

Springfield Police Chief Barry Roberts says at this time he believes the victims live in the duplex, and that it was a targeted shooting, seeing as no neighbors were harmed.

As a result of the investigation, officials blocked off a portion of 11th Street near Bob Little Rd.

They’re currently gathering witness statements and hope surveillance cameras can provide them with clues as to who they are looking for and where they went.

As for the suspect, or suspects, Roberts believes, they fled.

“We are canvassing the area, trying to get some maybe some residential video coverage or might have seen something or witnesses who were outside and saw something. Right now, we don’t believe our shooters are still right here, but we are still investigating the fact, and trying to identify them and move forward, ” said Police Chief Roberts.

“You said shooters, as in more than one?” News13 asked.

“Well, I’m sorry. I can’t say there’s more than one. I don’t know that I’m just the shooter or the suspect or suspects,” explained Roberts.

If you have any information or video evidence, contact the Springfield Police Department by calling their non-emergency line at 850-872-7545.
