An investigation is underway after a Delta Air Lines staff member died while on the job at Orlando International Airport, officials said.
Delta Airlines said the incident happened Thursday evening and is working with local authorities as a full investigation gets underway.
“The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of a team member while on the job at Orlando International Airport on the evening of May 7,” the airline said in a statement. “We are focused on extending our full support to family and taking care of our Orlando team during this difficult time.”
Operations at Delta’s Orlando station were paused Thursday evening while investigators worked the scene. One flight departure was canceled as a result, though affected customers were accommodated on other flights.
Delta noted that safety is the airline’s top core value.
In a statement to News 6, Orlando International Airport said it is mourning the loss of a staff member who died while working at the airport.
The Orlando Police Department said it’s conducting a death investigation inside the airside terminal, and the probe is having minimal impact on airport operations. Preliminary information suggests the incident was “accidental in nature”.
Police added that no additional details are being released at this time.
