A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a dump truck on U.S. 41 at the I-275 interchange Thursday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol said they received the call at approximately 4:24 p.m.
Investigators say the dump truck was stopped on the southbound left turn lane of U.S. 41, at the southbound entrance ramp intersection of I-275.
A Kawasaki motorcycle was headed north on U.S. 41, approaching the intersection, as the motorcycle got to the intersection, the truck turned left toward the entrance ramp.
The motorcycle hit the right side of the truck. The motorcyclist, who has not yet been positively identified, died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 59-year-old North Port man, was not injured.
Troops say the investigation is ongoing regarding the speed of the vehicles and the color of the traffic lights at the time of the crash.
