Car bursts into flames after I-75 crash in Charlotte County

A driver escaped serious injury Tuesday morning when his car burst into flames after colliding with a semi on I-75 in Charlotte County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The 26-year-old man was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound in the right lane, just south of Tuckers Grade just before 5 a.m.

The Toyota veered left, into a Volvo semitrailer in the center lane, investigators said.

After colliding, the Toyota traveled off the roadway, entered the tree line and erupted into flames.

Troopers said the driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver of the semi was not injured.
