SWAT team was preparing to enter a home on Faber Drive on Monday evening after deputies served a search warrant and called for an individual inside to exit with their hands up.
The active law enforcement operation unfolded just one street away from where investigators say a woman in her 70s was shot earlier in the day.
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound at a bus stop on Egan Drive. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators say the shooting suspect remains unidentified.
Residents in the neighborhood described a heavy law enforcement presence following the shooting.
“When I came out, there must have been half a dozen or more sheriff’s deputies, and people were being turned around on the street,” said B, who lives on Egan Drive.
B said she never expected to see a major crime scene unfold directly across from her home.
“That’s a little scary,” she said. “Makes you want to stay in your house.”
Exclusive aerial video from Chopper 2 showed deputies searching the area for evidence as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting.
For neighbors, the incident hit close to home.
“I hope her family finds peace and comfort, and I hope she recovers from this,” said T, who was at a nearby park with her children when deputies flooded the area.
“Crazy. That’s terrifying, especially because we come here all the time with our kids,” T said. “We let our kids go around that loop by themselves, so that’s honestly very scary.”
Meanwhile, deputies converged on a home near the intersection of Faber Drive and Flanders Way. Earlier in the afternoon, several deputies were seen speaking with a woman outside the residence before additional units arrived and crime scene tape was placed around the area.
By evening, armed deputies surrounded the home with weapons drawn as a helicopter circled overhead. Authorities later announced they had served a search warrant and called for a person inside to come out with their hands raised.
The sheriff’s office has not released details about the search warrant or identified the individual believed to be inside the home. Investigators have not said whether the operation on Faber Drive is connected to the shooting on Egan Drive.
However, when law enforcement eventually entered the home, they did not find anyone inside.
For residents like Boles, the violence has left a lasting impression.
“Everybody looks over their shoulder,” she said. “Now we’re really looking over our shoulder.”
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not provided additional information.
No details on the suspect have been released.
