A man is dead after being struck by an unmarked sheriff’s office vehicle Saturday night.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 10:20 p.m. in the area of West Hillsborough Avenue and Ambassador Drive.
Deputy K, 35, was driving eastbound on West Hillsborough Avenue in an unmarked 2024 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a man crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk.
The deputy immediately pulled over and rendered aid until EMS arrived, HCSO said.
The pedestrian, identified as A III, 27, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon.
K was placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation into the crash, which will be conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol.
“The loss of life is always tragic. My deepest sympathies are with the entire A family,” Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a news release on Sunday. “This tragedy weighs heavily on our entire Sheriff’s Office. We are committed to supporting a thorough investigation.”
