A vehicle fire on Interstate 75 northbound near Fruitville Road prompted authorities to shut down the northbound lanes during the evening rush hour Thursday.

Flames were visible coming from the front of the vehicle’s hood before crews worked to contain the fire. The northbound lanes were closed as a precautionary measure while crews continued working the scene.

Two lanes were reopened about 30 minutes after the road closed down, but backups were still an issue.

A separate crash was also reported northbound between Clark Road and Bee Ridge Road, further slowing traffic in the corridor.

Drivers heading northbound on I-75 should plan for significant delays. Authorities advised travelers to add approximately 20 minutes to their commute. Travel times were not available due to the lane closure.
