Deadly crash near Alachua-Levy county line blocks major roadway

Multiple first-responder agencies responded to a deadly crash on State Road 24 near the Alachua-Levy county line on Friday morning.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the crash happened on State Road 24, also known as Archer Road and Thrasher Drive, around 7 a.m. near the county line.

Troopers say a pickup truck heading west on the state road rear-ended a truck slowing down to make a turn.

The pickup truck driver, a 30-year-old man from Bronson, died in the crash. The other driver was unharmed.

Levy County sheriff’s deputies urged drivers to avoid the area because the state road was completely blocked due to the crash.
