Walton County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in Mossy Head on Friday that resulted in one burn victim being airlifted.
According to fire officials, a fire was reported at a home on West Laurel Lane around 6:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a single-wide mobile home.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the kitchen.
Fire officials say that one person had burn injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital for further evaluation.
According to WCFR, the fire started as a grease fire in the kitchen.
Volunteers with the Liberty Volunteer Fire District also responded to help Walton County firefighters.
In addition to ensuring the resident’s safety, fire officials say they were able to make sure the three cats, three dogs, and family pet squirrel were also safe.
Walton County Fire Rescue said it wants to remind residents that grease fires can become dangerous in seconds and should never be extinguished with water. If a grease fire occurs, turn off the heat if it is safe to do so, cover the pan with a metal lid or baking sheet, and evacuate the home if the fire cannot be immediately controlled.
