Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run in Tampa, sheriff’s office says

A pedestrian was pronounced dead after being struck by a car just before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to the intersection of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and North 43rd Street after receiving a 911 call about the collision.

Responding deputies found the victim unresponsive. They attempted life-saving measures, HCSO said, but the person was pronounced dead upon the arrival of paramedics.

Few details were shared about the incident, but the sheriff’s office said the victim was walking south along the northbound curb when they were hit by an unknown vehicle that then fled the area.

HCSO did not identify the victim. No information was released about the suspect’s vehicle.
