A 72-year-old Jacksonville woman faces a felony charge after allegedly striking a teenager with her car and driving away without stopping to help, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
Brenda Saddler was arrested Sunday, Aug. 23, and booked into jail just before 5 p.m. She faces one felony count of leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, as well as a traffic violation for driving on the wrong side of the road.
What happened on Mayport Road, according to report
The incident occurred Saturday, Aug. 22 at approximately 5:25 p.m. on Mayport Road.
According to the arrest report, a 14-year-old witness told officers he was riding his e-bike southbound on Old Mayport Road with his 15-year-old friend who was holding onto the bike while riding a skateboard. The 14-year-old said he heard a vehicle honk from behind and attempted to move further right in the lane. A vehicle then sped around them, and as it passed, the passenger side of the car struck the 15-year-old.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and transported the teen to Baptist Wolfson Town Center Emergency.
The victim sustained abrasions to his body after being knocked to the ground, including injuries to his left elbow and wrist, according to the report.
Suspect located near scene
Officers identified the vehicle from a photograph taken immediately after the crash. The image showed a Lincoln Town Car bearing what appeared to be a disabled veterans license plate.
Through further investigation, an officer located the vehicle — a silver 2011 Lincoln Town Car — on Gavagan Road, less than half a mile from the incident.
Saddler was contacted at her home, read her Miranda rights and placed under arrest.

Saddler faces the following charges:
- Felony (F3): Leaving the scene of a crash on public or private property without rendering aid involving injury
- Moving violation (MV): Driving on the wrong side of the road.
