A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting her girlfriend with a hat during an argument.
An officer responded to a disturbance at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Dispatch advised that 24-year-old Q possibly threw things at her girlfriend and cornered her.
Upon arrival, the officer heard an active disturbance between two women near the front screened-in porch. Q told her girlfriend to “stop,” and the officer instructed them to separate. He then noticed a small, fresh laceration under the girlfriend’s left eye, the report said.
Q explained they had been dating for about six months and lived together for five of those months. They had been arguing about an incident that happened on Tuesday. During the fight, her girlfriend began drinking and yelling at her, the report said.
She tried to separate herself by going into other rooms, but her girlfriend immediately followed her. She was still walking when her girlfriend threw pill bottles at her, although none of them hit her. She also grabbed a bottle of vodka out of her girlfriend’s hand, only for her girlfriend to kick it out of her grasp. Q then removed her girlfriend’s hat and started hitting her with it because she was “angry,” the report said.
Q had taken two videos of the incident, neither of which showed her girlfriend throwing items or yelling without Q arguing back. The report noted that one video recorded Q entering a room and immediately exiting after her girlfriend began walking away.
The officer next spoke with the girlfriend. She advised that the couple had been arguing over the incident from the previous day while painting their home. She had a bottle of vodka in her hand at the time, and Q took it from her while saying she drank too much, the report said.
The girlfriend kicked the bottle out of Q’s hand, to which Q removed the girlfriend’s hat and hit her in the face several times with it. She was not sure how many times she was struck. She admitted to drinking alcohol but stated she never touched or threw anything at Q, the report said.
As for the pills, the girlfriend threw them onto the ground because she was angry with Q, and they belonged to her. She did not throw them at Q, though, the report said.
Q was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). The North Carolina native was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
