Two people were hospitalized following a crash in Hernando County on Sunday morning that left a Jeep on fire and upside down on the side of the road.

The two-car crash happened just before 6 a.m. on North Broad Street, north of Lake Lindsey Road, according to Hernando County Fire Rescue.

Crews said they arrived to find flames coming from a Jeep and quickly put out the blaze. Photos provided by the fire department showed the burned-up vehicle upside down in the grass. Only the front end appeared to have been damaged by the fire.

The other vehicle involved remained in the road with its front end smashed.

Authorities said one person from each vehicle was hurt. One patient was taken to a nearby hospital while the other was rushed to a trauma center.

There was no further word on their conditions as of Sunday afternoon.

Officials have not yet said what might have caused the crash.
