Two people are dead, and two more are seriously injured after a head-on crash in Davenport on Saturday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The collision happened on U.S. Highway 17 near the intersection with West James Street just before midnight on Sept. 19.
A 41-year-old Davenport man driving a Honda sedan was driving south on US-17, while a Nissan sedan driven by a 37-year-old Kissimmee man was going north on the same road.
As they approached the intersection with West James Street, the Honda moved into the northbound lanes and struck the Nissan head-on, FHP said. Officials did not say whether they believe speed or impaired driving were factors in the crash.
Both drivers, as well as a 34-year-old Winter Haven man and a 45-year-old Kissimmee woman who were passengers in the Nissan, were hospitalized with serious injuries.
FHP said the Nissan driver and the Kissimmee woman he was traveling with both later died of their injuries. No update was provided on the condition of the other passenger in the Nissan or the Honda driver.
