One dead, another injured after shooting in Jacksonville’s Hillcrest area

One man is dead and another is in stable condition after a shooting Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville’s Southwest Side, specifically in the Hillcrest area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said District 4 patrol officers were notified about the shooting at about 4:40 p.m. through both a 911 call and a ShotSpotter alert. Officers found two men with significant injuries near Lake Shore Boulevard and Plymouth Street. The victims were taken to separate hospitals, where one was later pronounced dead. The other underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument. JSO said all involved parties were detained and there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Homicide and Crime Scene detectives, along with a representative from the State Attorney’s Office, are investigating. Family notification for the man who died was pending at the time of the briefing.
