Three teenage girls were injured Tuesday morning after they were struck by a car in Miramar, authorities confirmed.
The crash was reported in the area of Miramar Parkway and South Douglas Road.
According to Miramar police, the girls, ages 15, 16 and 17, were crossing the intersection within a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a Dodge Challenger that was heading north.
The teens, who police said are students at Miramar High School, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
According to authorities, two of the teens had minor injuries and the third might have more severe injuries, although they are still non-life-threatening.
Police said they have been checking surveillance cameras in the area and do not believe that speed was a factor.
The driver remained at the scene after the crash, officers confirmed.
“The driver is saying he had the green light, the young ladies are saying ‘we had the crossing sign.’ Those things are yet to be determined,” Miramar police Chief Delrish Moss said. “We’re gonna have to check cameras in the area, check the lighting cycles. One of the things that you see them doing measurements for is drag factor.”
Moss said regardless, the incident is a reminder to drivers and pedestrians to stay alert, especially during this time of day.
