Silver Springs crash sends 3 to hospital

Three people were taken to the hospital Saturday after a car crash in Silver Springs.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews responded to the three-vehicle crash on East Highway 40 around 3 p.m.

Crews said two vehicles involved were initially blocking both lanes, shutting down the highway in both directions.

Three patients were taken to the hospital. Another passenger declined further medical attention.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol worked to clear the scene.

Highway 40 is back open.
