Former Ormond Beach police officer accused of battery in use-of-force case

An Ormond Beach police officer is accused of felony battery stemming from his use of force during an arrest.

The police department said 32-year-old JC was arrested Friday.

Documents said the incident happened on Dec. 6, 2024, during a DUI investigation, and C threw a woman to the ground.

Two investigations were initiated: a criminal investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and an internal affairs investigation. During the investigation, the officer was placed on administrative leave.

Early findings from the criminal investigation pointed towards possible felony battery charges against the officer.

Former Officer C resigned from the department shortly before turning himself into the Volusia County Branch Jail to face the felony battery charge.

Police Chief JG released the following statement about the Ormond Beach Police Department’s commitment to high professional and ethical standards in addressing the incident.

“This incident does not represent the way we police our community. The men and women who do professional and compassionate work on a daily basis serving our citizens have no tolerance for this type of behavior. I have no tolerance for this type of behavior. I would also like to publicly apologize to the victim in this case, and I am sorry that this happened to you. Rest assured that the former officer is being held accountable for his actions.”—  Police Chief JG.
