Hit-and-run driver flees crash in downtown Fort Myers, traffic light out for hours

A hit-and-run crash knocked the traffic signal out at a busy downtown Fort Myers intersection early Friday morning.

According to the Fort Myers Police Department, the crash happened near Second and Fowler streets, near the base of the Edison Bridge.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, and officers remained in the area with Florida Power & Light crews as they worked to restore the traffic signal.

A passenger in the vehicle was found and gave a statement to authorities but was not arrested.

Police have not released any details about the driver or whether they are searching for them.

No injuries were immediately reported. The traffic light is expected to remain out for another hour or two as crews complete repairs.
