A 65-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash Monday afternoon after suffering an apparent medical episode, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
Police said the crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wickham Road, just north of Fountainhead.
According to a police-issued news release, an initial investigation shows that a Dodge Ram was traveling south on Wickham Road when it crossed over all lanes of traffic and struck a fire hydrant.
Police said the driver, a Melbourne woman who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Orlando Health Melbourne, where she was pronounced dead.
According to the release, the crash appeared to be the result of a medical episode, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
The crash remains under investigation.
