Taser takedown ends chase of man accused of attacking family, striking child with chair

A man allegedly assaulted his family members, threatened to kill them, and struck a child with a chair before he launched a high-speed chase throughout Port St. Lucie that left a trail of destruction in his wake.

The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) said FC kicked in the front door Wednesday and began assaulting family members inside the home on Southwest Baltic Street.

C, 28, allegedly physically attacked a woman, who is also his family member, and struck a child in the head with a chair. PSLPD said that a neighbor who saw the attack attempted to intervene and was also assaulted by C.

Further investigation revealed that C had texted a family member earlier in the day, threatening to come to the residence and kill the family.

When officers arrived at the scene at 4 p.m., C fled in his car, driving at a high speed, nearly hitting the neighbor who had previously intervened. The neighbor had to jump onto the hood of an officer’s patrol SUV to avoid being struck. C then allegedly accelerated toward a second responding officer, but that officer managed to avoid being struck.

The report notes that despite the police pursuit, C continued to drive recklessly through the neighborhood, damaging two mailboxes before crashing into a fence on Southwest Gettysburg Drive.

After crashing, he fled on foot but was pursued by officers for about two blocks. Officers reported that they had to use tasers to subdue him and successfully took him into custody.

After being medically cleared at a nearby hospital, C was taken to St. Lucie County Jail.

He has now been accused of the following charges:

  • Intimidation – Written Threats to Kill or Injure (domestic)
  • Burglary with an Assault or Battery
  • Burglary with an Assault or Battery (domestic)
  • Aggravated Battery
  • 2 counts of Aggravated Assault
  • Simple Battery (domestic)
  • Criminal Mischief $1,000 or more
  • 2 counts of Hit and Run, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage
  • Reckless Driving
  • Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
  • Resisting an Officer without Violence
