Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday to a home in the Village of Ashland where R B was taken into custody on a felony charge of battery.

His wife told deputies that she and B were in a “verbal altercation” in the bathroom when she “attempted to retrieve the car keys from his pocket.” That prompted a “physical altercation to ensure” and B twice slapped her on the left side of her face.

B was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. The native of Canada was released after posting $100 bond.
