An Auburndale man has been arrested after stabbing a woman in Winter Haven, police said.
Winter Haven Police Department responded to a call regarding a stabbing near Avenue Q Northwest around 8:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a woman with stab wounds. She was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she is in critical but stable condition.
The victim told officers that when she came back home from a trip to the store, MP, 54, appeared from behind a building asking, “Why can’t we talk, why did you stop talking to me?”
According to police, the victim stated she could tell P was agitated and attempted to calm him down, asking that he allow her to place her items inside the home.
When the victim attempted to put the key in the lock, P said, “I really want to hurt you b****, I really want to hurt you, I want to kill you.”
The victim then told officers she felt punches on the left side of the back of her neck and shoulders, and immediately felt blood.
As the victim was screaming for help. P walked away from the area.
Police said the victim knew P and was speaking with him over the phone before he became verbally abusive and stopped all communication.
After the victim ended communication, P would follow her to her home, where he was ultimately trespassed in January 2025. He had not shown up at her home until this incident, but he had shown up at her place of employment.
WHPD searched the area and found P at the top of a bridge on the Chain of Lakes Trail near Martin Luther King Boulevard Northwest and Unity Way.
P was detained and taken into custody, where he was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with attempted second-degree murder and one count of trespass after warning.
