Many drivers faced heavy delays during rush hour Monday evening as severe weather swept through the area.
Adding to the chaos, a portion of Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach was shut down as Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) conducted an investigation into a car crash.
CBS12 News obtained cellphone footage showing the aftermath of the incident, where a trooper was seen standing near a damaged red SUV along the highway, south of the Woolbright Road exit.
Besides the crash itself, in the audio recordings of 911 dispatchers CBS12 News obtained—drivers were reporting seeing money scattered across the highway and two men allegedly getting out of the car with guns.
“We’re getting information that two black males exited the vehicle with money flying everywhere and armed with guns,” one dispatcher stated.
In response, emergency personnel were advised to wait for law enforcement before approaching the scene to ensure safety.
“They were saying they could have AKs just be advised,” a dispatcher warned.
FHP blocked two left lanes of I-95 for an extended period, adding backups in the middle of rush hour. Authorities eventually cleared the crash scene.
CBS12 News has reached out to Florida Highway Patrol several times regarding the nature of the crash, reports of apparent armed individuals and whether guns were actually found. However, we’re still waiting to hear back.
