A 73-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Orange County on Monday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened at Silver Star Road and Powers Drive around 7:30 p.m.
According to a crash report, a Nissan Altima was traveling east in the inside lane of Silver Star Road, east of Powers Drive.
At the same time, a pedestrian was walking north from the south shoulder on Silver Star Road.
Troopers said the Nissan’s driver attempted to swerve to avoid a collision, but the pedestrian – who was not in a marked crosswalk – entered the direct path of the vehicle.
As a result, the front, right side of the Nissan struck the pedestrian.
According to the report, the pedestrian – identified as a 73-year-old Orlando man – was taken to ORMC where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as a 24-year-old Orlando woman, stayed at the scene and was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
