A Lake City man was arrested after shooting at a cyclist Tuesday afternoon.
Lake City Police officers responded to a gunshot alert at Northwest Railroad Street. Witnesses heard five to six gunshots and saw a small, brown vehicle fleeing the scene.
Officers saw the suspect, who was identified as JW, 22, picking up shell casings from the roadway near a grey Mazda sedan. W fled the scene after noticing officers. Officers were in pursuit of him after he eluded them.
Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were notified and were able to stop W a short time later near Southwest Linden Loop.
After further investigation, officers say W approached a cyclist, shouted a threat, exited the vehicle, and fired multiple rounds in the victim’s direction before fleeing.
The victim was not injured and later positively identified W and the vehicle used in the incident.
W is currently at the Columbia County Detention Center with a bond of more than $1 million set.
