Deputies identified a woman Wednesday who they say is accused of shooting a man during an argument outside a northwest Miami-Dade food store over the weekend.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Lakeside Market, located at 11050 NW 17th Ave. in the unincorporated Westview area, around 12:37 p.m. Saturday following reports of a shooting.
Deputies arrived to find a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the right thigh in front of the store. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported him to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from the store, which showed a woman, identified as 44-year-old SMJ, arriving in a dark-colored vehicle and getting into an argument with the victim.
The argument continued inside and outside the store, deputies said.
After backing out of a parking space, deputies said J, who was listed as homeless in her arrest report, lowered the front passenger-side window of her vehicle, pulled out a gun, and fired one shot, striking the man.
Investigators said J fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Detectives said she was positively identified through a photographic lineup.
She was taken into custody Tuesday and transported to the MDSO’s Northside District station.
According to her arrest report, J made a partial confession but continued to deny responsibility for the shooting after being read her Miranda rights.
Authorities have not disclosed the relationship between the suspect and the victim and a motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time.
Jail records show J is facing one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
As of Wednesday, she is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
