Bicyclist and golf cart driver hospitalized after collision in The Villages

A bicyclist and a golf cart driver were both hospitalized after a collision in The Villages.

A 51-year-old New Smyrna Beach man was riding a bicycle at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the golf cart lane westbound on Belvedere Boulevard in the Village of Bonnybrook when he was struck from the rear by a 2015 Yamaha golf cart driven by a 91-year-old resident of the Village of Bonnybrook, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The golf cart was also westbound. After striking the bicyclist, the golf cart went on to crash into a palm tree in the lawn of a resident’s home.
