Bicyclist dies after being hit by car while cycling 67 miles for 67th birthday.

In Matthews, North Carolina, a tragic incident occurred as a man celebrating his birthday by riding his bike lost his life due to injuries sustained in a collision with a car, as reported by the local police.

The unfortunate event took place on a Sunday around 12:45 p.m. on Matthews Township Parkway, situated between Sardis Road and Monroe Road. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders discovered 67-year-old Bruce Alan Davis. He was promptly transported to the hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries, the police confirmed.

Davis, a member of the Matthews Run Club and a dedicated cross-fit enthusiast, was marking his birthday when the collision occurred. His dedication to cycling was exemplified by a remarkable cross-country bike ride he embarked on last year, which culminated with him dipping the front wheel of his bicycle into the Atlantic Ocean, a feat that brought him immense joy, according to his teammate, John Carriker.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and as of now, no charges have been filed. A friend of Davis expressed her sadness, particularly because the accident transpired on his birthday. Deanna O’Connor shared, “I find it very sad because yesterday was also his birthday, and he was cycling 67 miles for his 67th birthday.”

Davis was not only a passionate cyclist but also renowned for his sportsmanship and remarkable skills. O’Connor recalled how people admired Davis’s stride and his unwavering determination, especially when tackling challenging hills.
