A bicyclist was killed in a crash with an SUV early late Sunday night on Lockwood Ridge Road, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The incident happened about 11:30 p.m., near the intersection of Lockwood Ridge and Gocio Road.

AN SUV driven by a 56-year-old Sarasota man was heading south on Lockwood Ridge when a man on a bicycle tried to cross the road and rode into the path of the SUV.

The bicycist died at the scene, investigators said. His identity has not been released.

Lockwood Ridge was closed for several hours but was reopened at about 4 a.m., the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

The investigation is continuing.
