A Nokomis woman out on a bike ride will never see home again after investigators say she tried to cut across the road and crashed straight into an SUV.
It happened just before 10 p.m. Friday.
Florida Highway Patrol tells us that the biker, just 45 years old, was on a ride along Tamiami Trail when she made the decision to cross the road near Pavoina Road.
The 66-year-old Minneapolis man sitting behind the wheel of the Chevy Equinox coming right at her was in his own lane, doing everything right. Nevertheless, he crashed straight into the bike, leaving the rider so severely injured that first responders had to rush her to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Tragically, the victim died before she could make a recovery.
Now, the driver is working closely with FHP, and the investigation continues.
