A community is in mourning after a devastating car crash claimed the life of a Boca Raton High School student, hours after celebrating his graduation.

Family said 18-year-old HAG, of Riviera Beach, was returning home from a celebratory dinner with his girlfriend and her father when tragedy struck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 52-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle near the Martin Highway exit, colliding with a guardrail. The impact killed the driver and G. The teen’s 16-year-old girlfriend survived.

The loss has shaken G’s family, who had gathered earlier that day to watch him walk across the graduation stage—a milestone every student dream of. His mother spoke with CBS12 News Monday evening. She described him as a loving and the biggest blessing of her life.

A witness from Port Saint Lucie shared an image of the aftermath, further highlighting the severity of the crash.

In response to the tragedy, G’s loved ones have organized a GoFundMe page to help the family with funeral expenses.

Meanwhile, Boca Raton Community High School has offered counseling services on campus to help students and staff navigate the loss.

Dr. SK, the school’s principal, addressed parents in an emotional email Monday, writing:

“It is with deep sadness that I share the news that one of our students has passed away unexpectedly over the weekend. Out of respect for the family’s privacy and for confidentiality reasons, we are not publishing the student’s name at this time.

On behalf of our school community, I will be reaching out to the student’s family to express our heartfelt condolences and offer support.

As parents and caregivers, you may find that your child is processing this loss differently. For some, this may be the first time they have experienced the death of a peer or someone in their community. I encourage all of us to approach conversations about this with care, compassion, and respect.

Grief support, including school counselors and school psychologists, will be available on campus today for our students and staff to ensure they have the emotional support they may need to help them through this difficult time. If you believe your child would benefit from speaking with someone, please encourage them to do so.

For immediate emotional support, staff and students may also dial 2-1-1, a confidential crisis helpline that provides guidance and resources at no cost. Please monitor your child for any signs of distress and do not hesitate to reach out if you feel they need additional support.

At Boca Raton High School, we are a community that supports one another. Together, we will navigate this difficult time.”

G’s mother expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the community in the wake of the tragedy.
