It was a close call for a driver trying to jump-start their car in Cape Coral on Friday, Dec. 26.
Fortunately, thanks to the quick response of fire crews at Fire Station 9, the blaze was put out, and no one was hurt.
“Every bit of the car was on fire. I was able to see the column of smoke by standing out here in front of the firehouse that far away,” said Cape Coral fire Lt. Jason Spinner as he described the moment of responding to the scene near Gleason Parkway and Chiquita Boulevard.
Spinner said two men tried to jump-start a car.
He said the cables that were hooked were loose and caused a spark.
“In this particular vehicle, the batteries were in the trunk,” said Spinner.
He said this is a reminder to know what you are doing when it comes to jump-starting your vehicle.
“Practicing and knowing what you’re doing as far as hooking up the battery in the right order and then unhooking it also in the right order, making sure your connections are tight,” said Spinner.
Spinner recommends jump-starting your car safely at a public parking lot.
